Deebo Samuel turned a short catch into an electric 57-yard touchdown, Talanoa Hufanga returned an interception for a score, and the San Francisco 49ers beat the Los Angeles Rams 24-9 on Monday night.

Jeff Wilson Jr. also ran for a 32-yard run that gave the Niners (2-2) their seventh straight in-state win. The Rams (2-2) won the game that meant the most in last season's NFC Championship game en route to the Super Bowl title, but this meeting felt like their most recent regular season.

San Francisco used a relentless defense to ease coach Sean McVay's frustrations and get a big play for the win. Nick Bosa had two of San Francisco's seven sacks against Matthew Stafford to give him an NFL-best six this season and Hufanga capped it with his 52-yard pick six in the fourth quarter.

It was San Francisco's fourth pick against the Rams in their last six regular-season meetings. Samuel hit the big thing again. The highlight came in the second quarter when he turned what appeared to be a Jimmy Garoppolo interception into a touchdown.

Derion Kendrick jumped on a five-yard pass and almost got it. But Samuel made the hook and that's where his career really began. He broke tackles from Taylor Rapp and Jalen Ramsey and blasted his way through the Rams defense for the final 52 yards to give the Niners a 14-6 lead.

The Rams moved the ball successfully on the first drive before Samson's sack. Bukam blocked the drive and forced Los Angeles to punt. Los Angeles struggled to move the ball after that, and the Rams couldn't finish the action when they did.

They will score on three trips to the red zone. San Francisco fought a big play that resulted in two long touchdowns. Wilson took advantage of a powerful block on a 32-yard touchdown midway through the first half for the 49ers to make it 7-3.

Samuel added a second touchdown and Robbie Gould kicked a 25-yard field goal after a Niners drive stalled at the field line. Gould lost for 42 yards midway through the fourth quarter to keep the Rams in the game until Stafford's reception.
